Bill Clinton warns of growing polarization

AP - Former President Bill Clinton warned Saturday that the country is becoming increasingly polarized despite the historic nature of the Democratic primary.

So Bubba's warning the rest of US about "polarization"...that would be as opposed to "triangulation", I suppose.

You really have to hand it to the guy.  In a twisted kind of way, it's almost awe inspiring to watch a guy operate that has absolutely no shame whatsoever.  Something he's usually displaying anytime he wags his finger and moves his mouth at the same time.

Obama get your gun!

Well, I've said it before.  It was just a matter of how soon it would happen.  And with Obama's big win over Hillary (and her 3rd place finish) in Iowa, it's starting a little sooner.  The Clintons are about to go nuclear on Obama.  Don't believe me?  Is Bubba's word good enough.  Check out the following from the Chicago Tribune:

...the Clintons made an announcement late last week that should freeze the bones of every Obamanite.

Speaking in Durham, N.H., and quoted on The Politico, Clinton said he'd sure like to stop the politics of personal destruction, but he can't because Hillary's been picked on too.

"The fact of the matter is, independent voters think you're polarizing if someone else attacks you, even if that someone is Rush Limbaugh, even if you've been totally exonerated of every single charge ever leveled against you, which Hillary was and some people forgot to tell you about that," ...

It gets even better.

"Nobody would be happier to see all this go away than us," the former president said ominously. "But you can't ask somebody who is at a breathtaking disadvantage in the information coming to the voters to ignore that disadvantage and basically agree to put bullets in their brains," Clinton said.

It's about to get interesting...and entertaining.  Somebody better let Obama know that this will be a gunfight.  No knives.  These folks play for keeps.

The "I" in Hillary

The reports of Bill Clinton’s appearance in Muscatine, Iowa on Tuesday leaves me just shaking my head.  It seems most media outlets this evening are just as puzzled as I am regarding his stump appearance for wife, Hillary.

The former president is taking heat, from across the political spectrum – left and right - for his claim that he was against the Iraqi War “from the beginning”.  In this age of Google and LexisNexis, it is amazing someone would state such artificial claims, considering what the record actually shows.

Associated Press writer Ron Fournier painted a very telling picture of his appearance and the statements he made, which included a quote from 2003 regarding Bill Clinton’s position on the War at that time.

Fournier writes:

He has not clearly opposed the war from the start. Like his wife, the former president has been critical of the Iraq war in recent months, but at one time he gave President Bush the benefit of the doubt. "I supported the president when he asked for authority to stand up against weapons of mass destruction in Iraq," he said in May 2003, the same year he was quoted praising Bush's handling of the war.

Bill Clinton double-speaking is certainly nothing new.  What’s amazing to me is the timing of this behavior.  This needs to be viewed in the context of the events in recent weeks, which have led to Hillary’s lead in the polls being rapidly destroyed and the related surge of Barack Obama’s numbers.

Polling shows that the likely Democrat voter in Iowa has obviously been affected by the multiple cases of inconsistent rhetoric Hillary has been revealed to employ in her campaign.  And it has been Obama, in particular, that has been the voice most loudly calling foul on those occasions.  Straight talk and honesty are traits Iowans have historically held dear during caucus season.

An explanation for such a poorly executed stump speech, possibly, can be found in Fournier's mention of how much focus Bill Clinton chose to place on himself in comparison to the Clinton who happens to be running for President at the moment:

In the next 10 minutes, he used the word "I" a total of 94 times and mentioned "Hillary" just seven times in an address that was as much about his legacy as it was about his wife's candidacy.

As unbelievable as it would seem to appear, the man who has been credited as being perhaps the best politician in American history, apparently stepped all over himself and the best interests of his wife’s campaign in his zealous efforts to, both, own a slice of the spotlight and to use his wife’s presidential run for his purposes of legacy building.

Not a lot seems to have changed in terms of Hillary’s husband placing priority on his own personal intentions and trivial desires to the detriment of the bigger goals and duties at hand.  What has changed, however, is the availabilty of information the voting public now has at it's disposal to bring light to the true facts of any issue and the true record of any candidate.

Clearly, this age of information accessibility is to the advantage of the american voting public and to the disadvantage of this particular political couple.

My Night With Bill Clinton

My Night With Bill Clinton

I live near Carnegie Hall basically because if I open the window, sometimes I can hear the music…and if I can’t hear the music, it certainly beats living near a garbage dump.  On the other hand, maybe I do live near a garbage dump.  The other night I tried to come back to my apartment after an evening of rivalry (basically borscht and blintzes), and found the way to my apartment blocked, and dozens of policemen and police cars in the street.

Concerned that there may have been a natural disaster, I inquired of the policemen.  It turned out that there was a disaster, but the disaster’s name was Bill Clinton.  He was speaking at Carnegie Hall, and because of this, the street was closed off, police cars were all around too, etc.  I told them I am going to my apartment, and they could arrest me if they like, secure in the knowledge that, at least as far as I knew, there was no crime called “Violating the Clinton Statute.”  So I went happily to my apartment unarrested.  Now, the unworthy thought occurs to me that if a semi-crook like Clinton, who was disbarred (too big a liar to be a lawyer), impeached, alleged to have raped a woman, perjured himself, “sold” pardons, and even went off with some of the White House silver, gets to have a street closed off, then John Gotti had the right to have had the whole city closed down for him, and all he ended up with is being locked up in a room with no girls.

Several days have now passed since Clinton’s exit from Carnegie Hall, and now, thankfully, I can open the windows again.

This day in history

Clinton White House history that is.  From World Net Daily:

WASHINGTON -- A consultant hired last year to beef up security for the White House's computer network found massive pornographic video files passing through the system's Internet firewall, WorldNetDaily has learned.

Some of the downloaded files were traced back to West Wing officials as recently as the beginning of last year, during the height of the impeachment crisis, say sources who were involved in replacing the firewall system as part of Y2K security upgrades.

The real-time video files -- which came from hard-core porn sites featuring homosexual, farm-animal and teen sex acts -- were so large in byte volume that they accounted for most of the traffic coming into the firewall, sources told WorldNetDaily. ...

Investigators, including White House Security Officer Charles Easley, looked at a number of variables to separate the habitual from the accidental Web-porn surfers. They scanned firewall logs over several weeks so they could see the repeat offenders. They also zeroed in on the large-byte files.

What they found was shocking.

"There were some significant names. I can say, yes, West Wing," said one White House source familiar with the investigation. "There were women too."

Many of the offenders also officed out of the Old Executive Office Building, including presidential personnel, sources say. One was in national security.

Of course none of this was surprising, given who was in the Oval Office at the time...
