Slowly but surely, it seems that the Republicans are getting a little bit of their mojo back.

How?  Simply by saying “no”.  Because, when it comes to Obama’s agenda, it seems that saying “no” is enough for Republicans to gain more support of the American people.

Some recent polling from Rasmussen tells the tale.

By a long-shot, the economy is the number one issue on people’s minds, and they don’t think Obama and the Democrat’s are doing such a good job dealing with it.

Overwhelmingly, they think the government is spending (and borrowing) way too much money, and the national deficit and debt are looming larger in voter’s minds.  Seventy-one percent agree that Obama’s policies have driven up the deficit.

As for Obama’s latest push for bigger government, so-called health care “reform”, it would seem the Democrats aren’t on the same page with voters.  Forty-eight percent rate the US healthcare system as “good” or “excellent”, with only nineteen percent rating it as “poor” – hardly a cry for a radical overhaul of the system.

Over half the country now opposes the “reform” plan working its way through Congress…which seems to demonstrate that the harder Obama and Pelosi push for it, the more ground it loses.

Seventy-six percent of voters believe that it’s at least “somewhat likely” that their taxes will be raised if Obama’s healthcare “reform” becomes law, (at least fifty-nine percent are positive about it).  read more »

From my latest column...

When it comes to legislation, there’s a general rule of thumb that the number of details someone doesn’t want you to see is directly related to how quickly they try to pass it.  The so-called health care “reform” bill is a text-book example.

The reason Obama and liberal Democrats are pushing so fast and furious is because the details, (where the Devil usually hides), are beginning to get out.  And as the details start to sink in, they’re cutting through all of the “yes we can” rhetoric and leading more Americans to say “no you don’t”.

So what’s getting them worked up?  Let’s take a look at some of the details of this “reform”.

Despite Obama’s best efforts, the financial implications are finally becoming more widely appreciated, (so to speak).  According to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO), the proposed legislation would not reduce the overall amount of money spent on health care in America, which undermines Obama's rationale for the massive overhaul in the first place.

They estimate that the “reform” would add between one and one and a half trillion dollars to our national debt, just over the next decade alone.  The result will be a call for massive tax increases and the eventual rationing of care to cover and reduce costs.  And of course this is before we find out how much more it will really cost once it becomes law, as every federal program eventually costs more than initially advertised.

Michelle Malkin's newest book, "Culture of Corruption" just came out this week, and it's already hitting number one on the New York Times Bestseller List - which I'm sure is making the folks over in the White House real happy.

In fact, you really have to like the full title: "Culture of Corruption: Obama and His Team of Tax Cheats, Crooks, and Cronies".

Of course, thanks to Obama and crew, she had little to no trouble finding examples to write about.

In fact, books by conservative authors are having a bit of a heyday right now.  Mark Levin's "Liberty and Tyranny" was number two on the list this past week...and it's been out for several months.  And Glenn Beck's "Common Sense" is number one on the paperback list.

All of which makes you wonder at the folks in the mainstream media, as they continue to fight a losing battle against declining ratings, you would think they would take note of the evidence of an obvious hunger for more conservative content.  But unlike rats that would normally abandon a sinking ship, those guys (and gals) are determined to ride the USS MSM all the way to the briney deep.  read more »

Just to show that the people who want to force a government takeover of our healthcare system will miss no opportunity...

Below is an email I received from the Obama campaign today (Yes, I'm on their email list...it pays to know what the other guys are up to).  In it, they're asking supporters to commit to giving them one dollar each day we don't have a health care "reform" bill signed into law by Obama.  The email subject line was "Somthing unusual".  I'll say.

You've probably seen the headlines: Opponents of change are doing everything they can to delay health insurance reform. As a Republican strategy memo concluded, "If we slow this sausage-making process down, we can defeat it."

They're betting that as time goes by, our energy will flag, our movement will weaken, and they'll ultimately be able to block any change.

But they just don't get it -- thanks to the regular Americans who are reaching out in neighborhoods nationwide, our movement is expanding every day. In fact, over the weekend, we surpassed our big goal of 1 million people taking action for health insurance reform. This is a bit a humorous story.

Via Wall Street Journal:

White House officials and lawmakers were studying late Thursday how to keep alive the government’s cash-for-clunkers incentive program because of concerns the program’s $1 billion budget may have been exhausted after just one week.

Obama administration officials warned congressional leaders Thursday it planned to suspend the program at midnight. But the White House released a statement late Thursday saying that completed deals would be honored and the program is still under review.

 

A White House official said, “We are working tonight to assess the situation facing what is obviously an incredibly popular program. Auto dealers and consumers should have confidence that all valid [cash-for-clunker] transactions that have taken place to-date will be honored.”

Lawmakers are discussing with White House officials where to find funding — including possibly tapping the government’s Troubled Asset Relief Program, or TARP, a congressional aide said.

The clunkers program, which offers rebates of up to $4,500 to consumers who trade in old vehicles and buy new, more fuel-efficient models, began July 24 and sparked a surge in car sales.
