One of the best ways to understand what a piece of legislation is all about is, well, to read it, (which too many of our elected officials refuse to do...or don't allow enough time for the American people to do).

This is even more true when it comes to Obamacare.

For example, Grover Norquist had a little fun doing a word search on the House version of Obamacare and found some interesting patterns.

If you care about your freedom (and/or your money), take a look at how often the following words appear in the bill:

• "Tax" 87 times
• "Taxable" 62 times
• "Excise tax" 10 times
• "Taxes" 15 times
• "Fee" 59 times
• "Penalty" 113 times
• "Require" 118 times
• "Must" 58 times
• "Shall" 3,424 times

Not exactly the language of liberty, is it?

Supply means more demand...then rationing

Dick Morris points out the obvious in his latest column:

"Here's a point that's no surprise except to the "reformers": People with insurance use more healthcare.

"President Barack Obama seeks to cover 50 million new people. Where are the extra doctors, nurses, and so on going to come from? Neither the administration nor anyone on the Hill has proposed anything to add to the supply of medical services even as they plan vastly to increase the demand. "

And of course, this will lead down the road to the "r" word that the Dems don't want to talk about...

The tax man cometh...

If you paid even remote attention to the 2008 presidential campaign, you know that the Bamster went out of his way to avoid being tagged with the big spending, big taxing liberal Democrat label, going so far as to promise - repeatedly - that there would be NO tax increaes on his watch for anyone making under $250,000.  The problem is that the people who work for him keep letting the cat out of the bag...

This past Sunday, his chief White House economist, Larry Summers, when asked about the campaign promise, said: “It is never a good idea to absolutely rule things out no matter what”.  About the same time, one of his fellow Obama administration employees, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, was on ABC stating: “We have to bring these deficits down very dramatically. And that’s going to require some very hard choices."  read more »

It seems fitting that on our Independence Day Americans would gather in locations all across our country and engage in that most American of activities - protest against the government.  Somewhere, our Founding Fathers are smiling.

Of course they're surely NOT smiling at the size and cost of the government they helped establish.  Which is the reason for the protests to begin with.  In fact, one could imagine the Founders wondering what's taken us so long to begin to seriously buck against the monstrous growth of a government who's finances are so unsustainable as to put the future existence of the country itself at serious risk.

People are finally waking up...

But finally there is an awakening going on all across our country, as the tremendous expansion of government control and government spending (and borrowing) proposed by Barack Obama is opening they eyes of many people who previously didn't give it much thought.

His first annual budget approached almost FOUR TRILLION dollars!  A budget that made a “down-payment” on socialized medicine and other massive expansions of government. 

In the past year we've added trillions of dollars to our national debt – which is currently over TEN TRILLION and counting!

There was the AIG bailout.  Then there was the bank bailout, (part one), and the auto bailout, (part one).  Then there was the “stimulus” bill.  Then a second auto bailout, and the Democrat's proposed energy taxes.  read more »
