TSA Strikes Again, Pats Down Breast Cancer Survivor [8]
This is more than I can handle sometimes, and at this early hour when many are sleeping I am awake and alert to the stupidity that is ruling the day here in America. I not only received nasty tweets this evening because of my last post of the “Occupy D.C.” crowd, but I come across an article about a woman who has been subjected to a TSA pat down, even after she went through the backscatter. To top it off, Lori Dorn (the woman at the center of this incident), was not given the opportunity to show her device identification card before the search took place. Just imagine how it must feel to be violated in this way, especially for a breast cancer survivor. Has this woman not gone through enough already?
I have written about the TSA for such a long time now it seems to get a bit old, but when you hear the stories of people or see video of their ordeal, you know you must keep writing about it because there is chance others have not heard about the incidents that happen. The nightly news will not cover it for you because they do not want to make the government look like they are the bad guy, and the government pushes it off to the side as if it is a joke and they only do it for your “protection”. We know that is not the truth, and while our government holds people on terror watch lists after they are cleared of any crime and while they pat down breast cancer survivors, we still have people in this world that truly do want all of us dead. Those people, unfortunately, are not the concern of TSA, but those who have had breast cancer, are kids, nuns, older men and ladies, individuals in wheel chairs, the blind, deaf, and otherwise no threat to America ARE the concern of TSA. Where have we gone wrong as a nation? I ask myself this every single day.
I have come to terms that we have given up a lot to “feel” protected. This is a lot different than giving up a lot to actually be protected. I have yet to see a case where the TSA found a bomb on a nun or a breast cancer survivor, so these searches at the very least are the makings of a government who want to keep you in line. In this case, we have a woman that was minding her own business and just wanted to get on a flight. She had everything that the TSA tells her to bring to the airport to show the agents, yet she was still searched in a manner that should be illegal. Why tell people to bring this I.D. if you are going to search them anyway? It makes no sense to the people on the outside looking in.
Is it not enough for the people of the United States that the people who are working these agent jobs are not fully trained to spot the real threats to our nation? Have we not heard enough of these horror stories to finally get behind someone who this has happened to and make sure our elected officials know that we do not want any part of it? Why are we being scared of our enemies when the government seems to be more of the problem than the actual solution in this case? I understand many of you want to feel protected when you go to the airport, but the problem is who will keep you safe and why are the people who are hired to do so searching people they should not be? If nothing else these agents should be fired, but a lot more needs to be done to make sure this does not happen again.
We need to finally make this an issue that is talked about during the campaign. Write to the candidate that you support and ask them what they will do to stop the TSA from going after women like Lori and little kids who are no threat to this nation at all. Ask them what they will do to stop the injustice that happens to people when they go to the airports, and not by the hand of the company you are flying with but by the hand of the people who say they are only trying to keep you safe. To me, it does not seem like they are only just trying to keep you safe, but get more control over you and your body at the same time. Doesn’t the government already have enough control over us already? Why do we allow this to continue?
Those who are out protesting Wall Street and the big corporations do not see the big picture. They do not see our freedoms being taken away while they complain about how much in taxes the “rich” are paying. If they wanted to be a productive member of society, they would stand in Washington with me and others like me in defiance of the TSA and the rules that have been set down to try and take over our lives. The TSA has no right to do this when the rules THEY MADE stipulate it would not happen if a person has the proper identification. This woman was no threat, just like the baby, the nun, and all the others were no threat. The only threat I see is to our civil liberties and to our way of life, to which I look at and say “goodbye” if more people cannot stand up and make their voice heard.
