Fight Heats Up For Primary Positioning Between The States [7]
The fight has begun between the states as it deals with when each state will hold their primaries next year. Florida is expected to announce they will hold their primary at the end of January, going against the rules of the RNC and possibly losing half of its delegates in the process. What does this mean in a race that could be much closer than in other years? This could mean a candidate losing out because a state wants to run all over the rules set out for the states. The question remains, however, why does the RNC put itself through this when there is an easy answer to all of this.
Tomorrow we will find out for sure when Florida will hold its primary and we will also see when the other states, the early states, decide to hold their primaries in defiance of Florida and their decision. There are only four states that are given permission to hold primaries before the first week in March, and they are South Carolina, Nevada, Iowa, and New Hampshire. These four states feel they are better than all the other states, so they get first dibs when it comes to a primary. We must not lose track of what this is really about, and that is the money!
The money that is being spent in these states is the reason the states want to move up their primaries. If the candidates want to have a chance, they have to spend money early and often, which helps states like the big four who get special treatment. But if this were to be fair, I believe there is an option on the table that could make everyone happy. Why not move ALL of the primary dates? This does seem logical, right? Why not allow the bog four to have their dates early, but those states must also have their primaries no more than one week a part. In that scenario, the other states could move their primaries up to whenever they felt like it, leaving more time for states to get the money the believe they deserve, or at least need.
There is also another option that I have yet to hear anyone from the DNC or RNC even discuss, and that is have the primaries on the same day as each other across the nation. While this would not be possible for the primary season coming up, it would be possible for the RNC and states to rework their laws and bi-laws on primaries in time for the next Presidential primary season in 2016. In this case, the candidates would have no choice but to spend time in all of the states, which would bring money to all of them. I know this would not make the big four happy, but in all fairness, this is the only fair plan out there that may make everyone happy. It would be designed as the Presidential election is, only the candidates would have to spend more time in other states they may not spend time in during the general election season.
I have heard the reasons why this cannot be done, and it is all because of the money the big four states get off of this, and that is no reason to ruin the primary season for the people. We just want to go to the polls and vote for the man or woman we believe will represent us better, we do not care about the money being spent and who is coming to beg for their vote. The people are sick and tired of the political games, and this is just another one of those games that turns people away from the process and gives them a reason to say that they want no part of it. The RNC is complicit in this, and they know themselves that if they actually did the fair thing, the big four states would be all over them. These four states would never agree to have their primaries on the same day, let alone work through their laws to make it happen. As far as I am concerned, this is just a political game while the people are screaming to stop it!
We deal with enough politicking on a daily basis and seeing the RNC fight with the state RNC divisions is not helping out cause at all. While this is a fight that happens on the Left with the DNC as well, it is much more out in the open now since there are no primaries for the Democrats this year. So the Democrats can sit and laugh at the infighting that is going on while the Republicans, who should be talking about the issues, are fighting about what day the Primaries should be held on and who gets special treatment. If this was a grade-school class, all of these states would be in detention!
It is long past the time since we put this thing out of our minds and actually made some rules that all states would be happy with when it comes to primaries. I have given two examples of how changes could be made right here in this blog. If we cannot sit down with our own side and work something out to make everyone happy, how are we supposed to show those out there that we can work with the other side to get something done for America? It is impossible for people to believe that the Republicans care about the future of this nation when we are spending our time and money fighting over a day to hold an election. The people are laughing at the RNC right now because this is not how things should be run. How could one organization who stands for freedom and fairness be so blind to the fact that they cannot even have states set primary dates without there being a big fight over it? As far as I am concerned, the RNC is doing the opposite of what is right in this situation, and while doing so leaving the Republicans to ask why politics has to be the way it is. The reason is because of the national Republican Party and their efforts to make sure everyone is always fighting with each other.
