I refuse to post this video in my blog and actually give it the attention others have given it, but I will post the link for those who have not seen it and are a little confused as to what I am talking about. The video, uploaded by a YouTube member named “MoneyMaineNGP [8]“, is a rap song about an EBT card and what can be done with the EBT card. In the video you see the “artist” (and I use that term as loosely as possible) going to the store and buying a huge amount of chips and snacks with the money while talking about how good it is to have an EBT card. This is America 2011 everyone, are you happy with your change?
This brings up an even bigger issue, actually, and something that not many people outside the internet want to talk about. The bigger issue are the “entitlements” that people believe should be given to them because of a certain situation they may be in, or in some cases what color they are. This is one of the biggest reasons why we do not have reform in these programs because the politicians are not brave enough to stand up and say there are people on programs like food stamps and the welfare system in general that abuse and overuse the system for those who really need it. This video shows what most of America already knew: There there are people who take other people’s money and spend it and could not care less about where it comes from and who has to work for it. There are people who have to work years past when they would retire so this individual in this video can go to the store with “EBT” and grab a half the stock of chips.
When are we, as a nation, going to come to the realization that there needs to be reform and there are people who are able to work that need to go to work. I do not care if that means going to scrub a toilet and make minimum wage, at least they would be a productive member of society and not have to take money off of those who actually pay their taxes. This video should not only infuriate you, but it should make you think about where your money goes at the end of the week. When you get your check and you see all of that money taken out of your check that should be yours, much of it is going to take care of people who otherwise would have to take care of themselves if it were not for a government who decided long ago to buy votes instead of win them with ideas and reason. Our nation is going down the tubes not because of the Conservatives and their ideas for the economy and on social issues, but because there is a weak stance in Congress on both sides when it comes to taking anything away from people who feel they deserve it.
I cannot begin to imagine a song like this actually being made. A comment on the YouTube page where the song is from YouTube member “troy0317? asks if this is the new Obama campaign song, which was the only time I laughed while I was on the page. it may only be funny because it is so true! But when we look at the whole message that this video sends to others out there who see it, we get the message that it is not only good to be using a program like cash assistance or food stamps, but it is also something that we all should shoot for. In other rap videos, we see fancy cars and nice homes, and while many people do not like the message of those songs at least they are showing something others can shoot for in their lives that makes more sense and aligns with the American dream.
There will come a time when there will be no more money for programs like this because we will have to stop printing money and other nations will stop giving us the handout that we all beg for. There will be a day that those on these programs get so angry because “their” money has been taken away they will hit the streets to protest. What we all have to understand is that there are many people who use these programs and the backlash from taking them away from just HALF of the people would be huge for any government to try and do, so they will allow it to happen on its own. We are no longer a nation of people who look toward the future and see what we can make of ourselves, we are a nation of beggars and whiners looking for the next handout that we can find to get us through the week. We are nothing more than drug addicts looking for that next fix, and if things do not change soon and if people do not stand up and try to push themselves forward in life we will see even more people on these programs in the future. There is just not enough money to go around to those who “feel” like they cannot work or should not have to. We are in trouble and it is time for all races and all nationalities to stand up and take stock in their nation before there is no more nation to take stock in!
