From the "You've got to be kidding [3]" Department...
Rep. Alan Grayson [4] was standing in the middle of Disney World when it hit him: What Americans really need is a week of paid vacation [5].
So on Thursday, the Florida Democrat will introduce the Paid Vacation Act - legislation that would be the first to make paid vacation time [5] a requirement under federal law.
The bill would require companies with more than 100 employees to offer a week of paid vacation for both full-time and part-time employees after they've put in a year on the job. Three years after the effective date of the law, those same companies would be required to provide two weeks of paid vacation, and companies with 50 or more employees would have to provide one week.
It truly never ends, does it? They're fine with telling businesses what sort of perks they should offer employees, but they balk when you try and get a tax cut for those same employees.
And given that any time you mention tax cuts to any of these bozos, they begin to whine about the rich and start "means testing" and setting income limits for eligibility, where's the "means test" for mandatory paid vacation??
Just goes to show that they're more concerned with the majority of Americans being under the impression that every perk or other good thing they have in life is because some liberal made it possible.
And of course it's more of what you would expect from people who tend not to think about the real world impact of their proposals...as in, the businesses that would fire, lay-off, or just not hire in order to avoid having to pay for mandatory paid vacations. But I guess from the liberal point of view, it's all good...since they would then be on the government dole anyway, (more dependants, yeah!)
How DO these people get these jobs???
