Fround 'round the sphere today...
Illegal Aliens...being "fruitful":
A newly released study points out that illegal aliens are having more children than American citizens [3]. And we all know what happens when Illegal aliens have babies on US soil. They have an "anchor"...as in an anchor baby that, according to a twisted view of our Constitution, automatically become US citizens...making it harder to kick their illegal alien parents out of the country. And, eventually, entitling the kids and the parents to a buffet of taxpayer funded benefits. What a country!
And "who" are these illegals? About 80% are hispanic, and about 60% are Mexican...which tells you, geographically, where our problem is...and underlines what so many people have been saying about the need to enforce and defend our southern border. Yes, sure, illegals do come to this country via other means, but the numbers alone point out that strict enforcement of our southern border alone would curtail the vast majority of illegals coming to our country. And it's the thing that our government still doesn't have a handle on...and doesn't seem to want to.
The Tax Man Cometh:
Well, it's not like people who can do math (and maybe didn't go to public school recently) didn't see this comiing, but it seems the economist have finally gotten 'round to crunching the numbers from the budget and have determined that "The One" might find it necessary to push for tax increases on the middle-class after all [4]. As Gomer Pyle would say, "Surprise!, surprise!, surprise!". It seems that when you add up all those new (and existing) government entitlements, bailouts, stimulus, etc..., plus rising government debt (and its interest payments), you get a government which will need more revenue...and there aren't enough rich folks to pay it all. Which means it'll be time to "soak the middle-class"! Don't say we didn't warn ya'.
Obama vs. the Pirates
You have to at least give O the credit for allowing the Navy boys to do what they do best in dealing with the Samali pirates a few days ago, (taking out three of them...one shot each). Of course the pirates vowed revenge, and now they're delivering...boldly taking 4 ships inside of 36 hours [5]. Yes, they're not American ships, (they fired on one American ship, but couldn't take it...the Navy got too close), but clearly this is a challenge. We need to show some initiative here and, either jointly with a few other countries, or by our lonesome, send a few more ships...(with choppers, etc.), and cruise around and blow these guy's little boats out of the water whenever and wherever they're found. Let them see that piracy = death...not rich, rock star status in their otherwise dirt poor country.
Tea Party Notes:
It looks like there will be over 750 Tea Parties held all across the country [6] today. And, of course, a lot of political types are trying to ride the coat-tails...but it doesn't look like too many Dems will be making the scene, (whether of the "blue" or "yellow" dog variety).
Michelle Malkin has a nice wrap-up of how the tea parties go started [7]. And Glenn Reynolds (of Instapundit) has a great op-ed in today's WSJ discussing the regular-joe, people-power aspect of the Tea Parties [8]. What you would call their "organic nature" I suppose, in that they sprang up all around the country, led by regular people...not all part of some organized effort on the part of one, or even a few political organizations. And forget political party labeling. Many of these folks are (rightly so) just as upset with the GOP as with the Dems. (Heck, W practically paved the way for O's latest porkulus bill) It's not artificial, but "real" and spontaneous. And, as anyone who knows anything about politics knows, if it has numbers it will have power.
And when it comes to how the "mainstream media" have been covering (or not covering in most cases) these events, well, here you have a perfect example of their mindset in the idiot savant personage of NBC's own Chuck Todd from this morning's Today show [9]:
There's been some grassroots conservatives who have organized so-called ‘tea parties' around the company-country hoping the historical reference will help galvanize Americans against the president's economic ideas."
He continued to write off the protests saying: "But I tell you, the idea hasn't really caught on. The RNC has jumped in. A few other radio hosts have jumped in but it hasn't galvanized the party the way they would hope."
Hasn't "caught on", huh? Again, over 750 citizen organized events being held on the same day in protest of rampant government spending. These guys are so "in touch". I guess this at least partially explains why the viewership of the Big 3 networks continues to go down [10], month after month.
You gotta' love these guys...if just for their entertainment value.
