Report: White House Met With 3 Romney Advisers To Craft Obamacare
News moves fast these days, and today the Romney camp has probably felt great pride (with his establishment buddy Christie set to endorse him) and the great lows of what comes out of passing a health care plan that is holding the campaign back in the first place. NBC News is reporting that back in 2009, three former Romney aides who helped him craft Romneycare visited the White House on numerous occasions to discuss how the health care law in Massachusetts could be shaped into a national plan.
This is bad news for the Romney campaign when it was hard enough for him to explain away his actions on that legislation to begin with. This makes it that much harder for him to brush it off.
What this should show all of those Republicans voting in the primaries coming up next year is that this man, Mitt Romney, is not that much different from the man we have in the White House right now. He may not be as bad when it comes right down to it, but he is no friend to the right of the Republican Party and he is certainly no Conservative. This is not what the Republican Party needs, and this is why we need to look at other candidates. Romney and Perry will not make America stronger and better, but other candidates may try harder knowing that the people sent them there over those who had more money and more power.
What I have found humorous since Romney entered the race was his inability to be able to explain away his health care plan. This news makes it even more difficult for him to explain it away to those who do not like him because of it, but I am afraid many other Republicans will stick with him just because they believe he has the best chance to win. if I was working for the Romney campaign I would dread winning this election, because the first time the health care law came up for debate between himself and President Obama, the President has leverage on the issue. He can use this against him to show the people he is not so right after all, and would not be so much different than himself. This could lead people back to the side of the president, sweeping him back into office. While that is a theory and a theory only, what will happen for sure is that many Conservative-Republicans will sit at home or vote third party when the time comes, because I will not vote for Mitt Romney and other will not as well when we know his plan and his thoughts on the health care system are not so much different than the President.
Luckily, I believe we are in the time when other candidates will have a chance and tonight’s debate will show what the other candidates have to offer the American people. Will Herman Cain stand up against the attacks that may be coming his way and will he be able to defend his positions to the American public to make himself more appealing to the masses? He has already started doing so, and with this news the Republican base is going to be more turned off than ever. This issue needs to be raised by the candidates so the people know what is going on. I do not care well Mitt Romney is on the economy, if he stands anywhere near Obamacare and any of his staff played a role in it, you have to ask yourself how he will handle the program if he is President and it is still on the books.
This could turn out to be the straw that broke the camels back for Romney, unless he plays his cards right. We know he is a decent debater and he can handle himself well, but this will be hard to overcome when he has had trouble overcoming the law in the first place. There is no doubt the other candidates will be jumping on him for this, especially Rick Perry who will be looking to draw more people from the Romney side over to him. Those who have left Perry have jumped to Herman Cain. Those people now for Herman Cain were also very high on Romney at one point. It seems to be a populace not too sure what they want, but in the end what we do not need is another establishment man in the White House. While Cain and the others are not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, they are not trying to be somebody they are not. We know what we are getting with Bachmann, Santorum, Huntsman, Cain, and Paul. There is not too many shades of grey in their stances and the people know where they are coming from, even if they may not believe they can win an election against this President. What we do not know is what Romney or Perry would actually do as President, because they will change their tune to the wind.
With the news that Chris Christie will endorse Romney later today and with this news, one has to ask themselves if they are really happy with the concept of a Romney Presidency when many of us refuse to vote for the man. I have been a staunch Republican for years, but I cannot sit around while another phony fools the American people. New Hampshire, which is where the debate will be held tonight, seems to be a lost cause for anyone but Romney, but he will not be able to carry the nomination with just that state alone. He still has to convince other states where the people are not so warm to him and his past policies. Romney fits well in that part of the country, but not in many other parts where we see his stock diving by the day in states like Iowa, South Carolina, and Florida. As I have said, this may be the straw that broke the camels back, but that will only be the case if people are willing to look at other candidates and see what they have to offer the American people. The time for voting for the man who we think will win has to come to an end right now. We know in our hearts Romney is not the man for the job, and the fact that his advisers were visiting the White House to give ideas on how to craft Obamacare shows that he is not the person we need in this country to lead us into the future.
