Same-Sex Marriage and the Gay Agenda
Marriage is Just the First Step in a Broader Campaign to Remake Society
Many in the homosexual community sneer when anyone mentions a "gay agenda". They claim that there is no such thing. There clearly is a gay agenda, even if its not easily discernable or even concisely articulated.. We see proponents of the lifestyle calling for things like equal rights (who can argue against that) and even marriage and adoption for gay couples. But a little digging into the gay rights movement will give you the bigger picture of what same sex marriage advocates are ultimately hoping to achieve. This is a movement that only begins with equal employment opportunities and protections but ultimately wants to reshape our institutions and our very society.
In 1972, the National Coalition of Gay Organizations drew up a “Gay Rights Platform” in Chicago. Among the notable goals of the platform was to seek to “repeal all legislative provisions that restrict the sex or number of persons entering into a marriage unit; and the extension of legal benefits to all persons who cohabit regardless of sex or numbers”. In other words, the right for homosexuals to marry is simply the first step in the eventual destruction of the institution of marriage. And this is not a position that has been dropped over the last three decades. The notion of opening up marriage to any number of people is still pointed to time and time again by gay rights advocates. If the gay movement gets their way anyone can marry any number of other people, regardless of gender and (we will soon see) of age and the taxpayers will be left to cover the cost to society of these unstable and harmful unions. Imagine, a “marriage” of 4,5,6 men and women, all suing one another for alimony, child custody and support, and everything else that can come from a nasty divorce. Now imagine that extrapolated across the country and throughout the court system.
Another goal of the platform is to “repeal all laws governing age of sexual consent”. In other words, legalize pedophilia which, for the gay rights activist, dovetails very conveniently with “the enactment of legislation so that child custody, adoption, visitation rights, foster parenting, and the like shall not be denied because of sexual orientation or marital status”, another of the platforms goals. Any thinking person should shudder at the very notion.
Another part of the gay agenda is pushing the genetic determination of sexual orientation. This, however, is a part of the agenda that has little basis in scientific fact. The evidence of a “gay gene” has been inconclusive at best and has in no way discounted the prominence of environmental factors. Dr. Robert Spitzer is the member of the American Psychiatric Association who was the first to go on record to move to take homosexuality off the APA’s list of mental disorders – an act that paved the way for the movement of the lifestyle towards the mainstream. Dr. Spitzer has since done studies of 200 homosexuals and shown that they can be successfully transformed into heterosexuals and have fulfilling, monogamous relationships. It seems that this would not be an easily accomplished feat if genetics were involved. A leopard can’t change its spots but therapy can cure a mind distorted in its formative years. The myriad of studies that have come out purporting to show a genetic basis for homosexuality just have not been able to stand up to rigorous, long-term scrutiny.
The most oft-quoted part of the gay agenda is the inflation of their numbers for political purposes. We have probably all heard that homosexuals make up 10% of our population. This statistical mantra has been chanted for so long that no one dares to question the validity of it even though it has been proven false by studies over the years. As recently as 2003 in footnote 42 on page 16 of an amicus brief filed in the Lawrence v Texas case that struck down anti-sodomy laws in Texas, an affiliation of pro-homosexual groups put the percentage of American homosexuals at 4.2% of the population or about six million Americans. The National Health and Social Life Survey put the number of men and women having only same-sex partners since the age of eighteen as low as 1.4 million. Should marriage, the basis of our society and the institution that provides our children with safety, be re-defined and even destroyed just to satisfy such a small number of militant activists?
Another example of the gay agenda is evident at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. This college offers, paid for with taxpayer’s dollars, English 317, Literature and Culture. Nothing wrong with that, right? Well the title of the class is “How to Be Gay: Male Homosexuality and Initiation”. Initiation? Genetically pre-disposed, God-created homosexuals shouldn’t need initiation. The course description states that it seeks to aid men in “learning how to be gay”.
All of that aside, the question we have to ask ourselves as a society is, “Where do we draw the line when it comes to sexual behavior?” A generation ago sex outside of marriage was taboo now it is as commonplace as fast food. A few years ago, homosexuality couldn’t even be mentioned in polite conversation now it provides the premise for sit-coms and it parades down Main Street. Each time we erase the line that separates acceptable from unacceptable behavior it becomes harder and harder to ever redraw it where it once had been. Some people in our community see this as a good thing. They believe that, in the name of freedom and their own definition of rights, that all lines should be erased and they should be able to act upon whatever whim or physical urge holds their interest at that moment. Values…that was our parents’ hang-up, a restriction on our desires and wants. Responsibilities…let the next generation deal with the ramifications of our actions, let them try to rebuild and deal with the mess that we are leaving in our wake.
Is this the legacy that we want to leave our children?
