MSNBC Hits All Time Low, Accuses AP Of Racism

I came across this while reading through the news this afternoon, and while it does not surprise me that anyone on MSNBC would try to make race an issue, the way it was done in this instance only shows they are reaching to the bottom of the barrel for something to talk about. AFter the President’s speech to the Congressional Black Caucus, the AP put out a transcription of the speech, as many other news outlets also did. The difference in the AP version is that it was not “cleaned up”, which means where Obama dropped his g’s for effect, the AP left it as it was said while other news organizations “cleaned up” the transcript to make it look like he was speaking to the group as he would any other group. Realistically, however, the AP transcribed the speech as they should have, while the other news networks and news outlets changed it, for one reason or another. Because of this, MSNBC thought it prudent to call out the AP (which for the record is as Left Wing as MSNBC, so this makes no sense at all) and try to bring race into the discussion once again. Unfortunately, I do not think it is working because the six people left on the planet that actually still watch MSNBC were watching something else at the time.

If this shows us anything, it shows how the next election is going to be run. This is why I truly believe it would be great for this nation if there were two black men going head to head for the Presidency, so the media would not be able to use these kinds of tricks on the people. While media outlets like MSNBC would still try to, the people would never buy into an excuse that a black man was racist against another black man on the campaign trail and would throw all the ammunition that MSNBC and the others have right out the window. I believed this the last time that Obama ran for election, and there was no one in the Republican Party willing to stand up and say the same thing because they were afraid off looking like racists if they said that the GOP needed a black candidate. There is nothing wrong with saying someone who is black and Republican would make a good choice for President, and to say it would not take way from the media arsenal would be denying the games that we have seen them play already in this election season. We all know it will get worse, and the GOP needs to look deep into their party and look at who REALLY has the best chance of not only beating President Obama but the media as well.

Early in the day I wrote a piece on Herman Cain and how he has jumped in front of the two main contenders on the Republican side. I am starting to believe that not only are the Republicans tired of the same old same old, but they are looking for someone that could stand on the stage with Obama and not be called a racist after the debate. Herman Cain is a man that the media fears because of this, and he may be what the Republicans need, even though many top Republicans say that he is nothing more than in this race for more popularity. Just because he is not a Washington insider or even a man who has held office after office, that should not mean the people should not pay attention to him. Taking what he does stand for and the fact that he is also a black man who can reach the same groups of people that President Obama can, him as the nominee scares not only the Democrats but the media as a whole.

Those who take MSNBC at face value will try to rationalize what is being done here as a white man trying to bring the black President down. This is not what it is at all and we all know it. Anyone out there that has written more than 10 paragraphs know that this kind of writing exists, and there are transcribers that will transcribe exactly what they are hearing without cleaning it up because the effect is meant to be there. A perfect example that the article in Hot Air brings to light is The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. The literary term for this is called “eye dialect” and is very up front in Steinbeck’s novel. During my own writing of fiction, which I am working on right now, I use the same kind of literary structure with one of the characters because that is how the character is supposed to sound if you were to hear him. We have become so politically correct that the reader of a speech can no longer read and try to get a grasp on how it was being said, but now it must be changed because if it is not then it is racist. I for one will never change anything I write because anyone may think it is racist, and the AP should not apologize for showing the people what was really being said.

In writing, no matter what kind of writing you do, you want to draw a picture for the reader. You want that reader to feel like they are right there in the story, or in this case the event, that is going on. The people want to feel they are a part of what they are reading, and that is why the best writers and the best novels are those where people can place themselves inside the story as if they were a part of it. The media today would like no part of that and would rather have you believe their picture of a story that has been changed because the original was not good enough for them to use. The fact that the President used this dialect and the AP pointed it out is not racist, but it does bring up questions about those news agencies that will not and refuse to show the dialect of the speaker, no matter who that speaker is.

This hits close to home because I do write a lot, and even in my non-fiction political books I try to paint a picture of where this nation is going and where we have been. That picture would look nothing like it does if some of these people in the media got a hold of it, and that is why we do not have the writers that we used to have in this nation and around the world. Political correct writing is what the people are used to, and when kids are left to read books like The Grapes of Wrath, Animal Farm, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Catcher in the Rye, and many others and not understand the undertones of those books because they are not brought up to know history. They read some of these books and see words that today we would not use, so they are afraid to read them out loud. I remember reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn when I was younger and in school, in the days when you had to go around the room and read out of the book. Those who know the book remember that words are used in that book that would probably not be used today in that same type of novel, and when we went around the room the kids, including myself, were a little hesitant to say some of the words. Even though we might have been a little shy to say them, the words had their part in the book. We learned earlier this year that a re-release of the classic would be left without the “n” word as well as any mention of “injun” (Publishers Weekly).

MSNBC is perpetrating what many others have been doing for years, and that is taking the reality out of words so others can make it seem like it sounds like something else. Just because the AP put Obama’s words as they were said during the speech does not mean they are racists or they do not like him, it means they were trying to show the people the TRUE intention of what was being said and trying to put them right there in the hall in their minds. This is what we need more of, not more of the political correct garbage that we see on a daily basis. We already see kids who come out of school and never read the books that I mentioned above because the school districts think they are too violent or they use words that the kids should not be learning. We are not only taking away thought of all generation by trying to play with the language that people use, but we are playing with the future of those those who used to read and imagine, and want to go out on their own and do the same. These books made me want to write when I was young, and to this day I pick them up, along with many others, and read them again. Some have heavy political undertones, many more societal undertones that talk about the way life used to be. It does not and did not matter the meaning, it mattered if you could put yourself in that position of a character and go through the book and learn more about what the author’s true intent was.

Today the motto seems to be: “Just read it, write about it, and shut up”! That is not good enough, even if people want to call you a racist!
