Latest poll numbers

Rasmussen's latest national poll is out and things are tightening. The numbers are as follows for Republicans:

Giuliani 26
McCain 18
Romney 15
Thompson 14
Gingrich 6

From Rasmussen's report:

The potentially big change is that Romney has inched into third place with 15%. That's just a single point ahead of former Senator Fred Thompson, but it's also the first time Romney has moved ahead of Thompson since the TV star's name first entered the race. It will take another week or two to know whether the change is significant or merely statistical noise. It's also worth noting that Romney is within three percentage points of McCain (news reports suggest that McCain dissed Romney in a conference call with bloggers over the weekend). ...

Most interviews for this survey were completed before the furor over a proposed immigration reform bill could have any impact. That proposed legislation may cause difficulties for McCain, one of its biggest supporters. The bi-partisan agreement on "comprehensive" reform has already caused difficulties for President Bush whose Job Approval fell this week to the lowest level ever recorded. The President's ratings fall every time immigration reform dominates the news. Rasmussen Reports surveys continually show that most voters favor an enforcement first immigration policy.

I think we can look for the next poll to show pretty much the same thing...bad news for the President and for McCain.
