Fashion Critic-And-Chief
Totalitarianism is defined as a political system where the state attempts to govern every aspect of public and private life.
Obama has favorably endorsed the linguistic alteration to the uniforms of the Phoenix Suns (and why didn't he go out of his way to mention what city the Spurs were from as well).
Is there any doubt that the level described above is the extent to which the President desires to intervene in our lives?
One would think that the country is so screwed up right now that Obama wouldn't have time to assume the role of the nation's chief fashion critic.

On A Wing And A Prayer.
Although it’s only relevant in the US, it seems appropriate that the UK general election is being held today, National Prayer Day. With the amount of prayers coming out of Britain today, I hope the Good Lord has a high bandwidth connection.
In Skip’s article from May 3rd, ‘Our Founding Documents… The Foundations Of Freedom’, he said that “Many, back in the days of King George the Third and the Revolution, didn’t believe that people could self govern, that instead the guidance of a firm but benign ruler was necessary as the common man simply could not be trusted to make life decisions for himself.” This attitude is still evident today in modern Britain. I have spoken to many who complain bitterly about high taxes, uncontrolled immigration and all the other usual gripes. They usually round off their little rant with a resigned “Well, there’s nothing we can do about it”.
Compare that attitude of many, or most, Brits to that of the American people over the last year. Do you think that if Obama totally lost it (anything is possible!) and introduced a 50% income tax level, increased fuel tax to push gasoline to $9 a gallon, and set up a state-owned broadcasting network which would cost you a $220 annual license (whether you watch it or not), that there would not be a few Tea Parties? Darn right there would be! read more »
Cinco de Mayo: an Illegal Invasion
A happy Cinco de Mayo to our Mexican friends. Earlier this week I thought that maybe the anti Arizona bill protesters would use today for their activities rather than May Day, which unless you’re a communist Mexican or a Hispanic morris dancer, would have little relevance. After a little thought it made sense.
The first reason they didn’t choose today to protest is that they would rather be engaged in a fiesta, and who can blame them. The other reason is historical. I’m probably teaching granny to suck eggs here, as readers of this column are a pretty clued-up bunch, but here’s a basic account of how Cinco de Mayo started.
In 1861, Mexico stopped paying interest on loans it had received from other countries. Some, like Spain, let it go. Napoleon III of France, as was his way, had other ideas. The well-equipped French invasion force had everything going their way until May 5, 1862, when the Mexicans defeated an army twice their size at the Battle of Puebla. The French eventually took control of the country and placed Maximilian I on the throne. The occupation lasted a couple of years until the French withdrew after pressure from the US. read more »
The Pinheads And The Patriots.
Firstly, apologies to Bill O’Reilly for borrowing one of his catch phrases, but it seems so appropriate for this article. Faisal Shahzad, a ‘naturalized’ American, has been arrested for the attempted terrorist attack in Times Square. It is not clear at this time to which organization he is linked, although he was recently a visitor to Pakistan where, according to reports, he has a wife.
This is the second time within five months that a devastating attack has failed, principally due to the ineptitude of the terrorist, a pinhead of the first degree. If the situation was not so serious it would be quite comical – a terrorist using the wrong kind of fertilizer. Jocularity aside, we must realize that, as at Christmas 2009, we were again lucky. We should not underestimate the determination and resources of the enemy based on these amateurish attempts. They will try again, that much is certain.
The left, rather than praising those who helped to avert a possible disaster and condemn the guilty, seem to be more disappointed that it was not the plot of an extremist right-wing American. Huffington Post’s Louis Klarevas had this to say: “On Monday, while Americans were fixated on the hunt for and subsequent arrest of Faisal Shahzad for his alleged role in the Times Square bomb plot, an equally important terrorism-related story that was breaking in Detroit went relatively unnoticed”. read more »
Our Founding Documents… The Foundations Of Freedom.
The three documents, The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution, and The Bill of Rights are the model from which America draws its freedoms. Those freedoms, and the industry and genius of a free people, are responsible for the astronomical success of the great American experiment.
Many, back in the days of King George the Third and the Revolution, didn’t believe that people could self govern, that instead the guidance of a firm but benign ruler was necessary as the common man simply could not be trusted to make life decisions for himself. Europe was essentially a series of post medieval fiefdoms. A rigid caste/class system ensured the status quo.
With the discovery of the new world, the colonizing of America sent hints of freedom back to the old world. The restless and independent who chaffed under monarchical rule responded and fled to this new land, where a man was free to worship as he pleased and prosper through the efforts of his own labor, far from the courts of Europe. This led to a fierce independence and a love of the country that had given them so much.
The Revolutionary War brought together some of the best minds in the colonies to formulate the founding documents of our fledgling republic. I’m one of those that believe that the documents were God-given. God was a very big part of our founders’ thinking and their lives, and it shows in the wording. I’m more and more convinced that the founding documents should be read, examined and wondered over by every citizen. The language is simple and easy to understand. You cannot read these works and not feel uplifted. read more »
Internet Journalism… The Left’s Truth Serum.
It doesn’t take much… we carry a message that rings true to Americans. The Conservative message stands on its own, it always has. You don’t see 3,000 page bills where Conservative Republicans legislate. I believe that some of that has to do with the observation that what is in the convoluted mishmash of duplicitous bureaucratese of that DeMarxist health care bill is full of convoluted self-justification. It’s the language of the left, full of deceit and false promise.
Conservatism is a much simpler philosophy to follow. The message of Conservatism is simple because the language of freedom is straightforward and easy to understand. Smaller government, lower taxes, freedom from government interference in business, individual responsibility and respect for the rule of law. We see the individual as the most important asset this country has, as opposed to the left who sees the individual as a part of their machine which exists to service the state.
Americans really resent the attempt to entrap them into Barack Obama’s Marxist Nirvana. It shows daily, with more and more people turning to Patriot groups and Tea Parties to combat what most of us now see as an attempted Marxist takeover of our country. There’s not much doubt about exactly where Obama stands any longer… and the more we look the farther left he gets. He was out bashing Arizona again today and pandering to illegal aliens. read more »
Renaming War On Terror Actually A War On America
The Obama White House has more respect for the homicidal enemies of the United States than it does for the average American citizen. For while Obama operatives at one point set up an email account to gather intelligence on those critical of healthcare legislation and categorized those questioning the need for end of life counseling as astroturf protestors, it has been announced that America is no longer at war with terrorism or even jihadists for that matter.
Instead of blowing this human scum into Sheol, the administration plans to increase aide to foreign governments that will no doubt come back to be used against Americans. There is nothing quite like having the best enemy that money can buy.
Despite their shortcomings, one must acknowledge that America's enemies do not respect weakness. However, that is exactly what the nation is projecting.
Changing what is said about the situation is not going to change the situation. Nor is it going to change what the enemies of the United States think about the United States or their intentions towards Americans.
Interestingly, instead of mustering the intellectual wherewithal to rise to the challenges to our freedom and very existence, leaders throughout various institutions are going out of their way to cater to Islamist preferences and shackle Western perceptions.
Many policy eggheads are attempting to either outthink the issue or to paint themselves with a veneer of psuedosophistication by sneering down their noses that we cannot refer to these malcontents as jihadists either since that is a legitimate religious term meaning "to purify oneself or to wage a holy struggle for a moral good." read more »
Crist Drops Out of GOP, Cites Political Health Reasons
Everyone’s bemoaning Florida Governor Charlie Crist’s “political” decision to run for Senate as an Independent instead of a Republican, since he knows he’d lose the primary to Marco Rubio.
Everyone’s missing the point.
The political rule-bending is tied to the ideology. Liberals and centrists are more likely to bend the rules to win elections and votes than conservatives. It’s part of their political philosophy.
Behold the following Democratic party-hoppers in recent years:
• Senator Jim Jeffords left the Republicans in 2001 to swing the balance to Democrats early in George W. Bush’s first term, after being promised cushier arrangements by Democratic leaders
• Liberal Mayor Mike Bloomberg switched from Republican to Independent in 2007 to garner greater support for his nanny-state governing style in New York
• Arlen Specter left the Republicans for the Democrats last year in anticipation of a difficult primary race
• New York Senate Democrats Hiram Monserrate and Pedro Espada, Jr. became Republicans temporarily last summer in an attempt to enhance their leadership positions, then switched back to being Democrats when their bid failed
• RINO Dede Scozzafava endorsed Democratic candidate Bill Owens over conservative Doug Hoffman after dropping out of NY-23 last November
Also witness the following liberal rule-bending over the last decade:
• Al Gore’s campaign pushed for hand recounts using loosened standards in select counties in the 2000 Florida presidential recount read more »
Obama Eight Days Behind Curve On Well Leak.
Every new media writer out there has given his or her take on the Louisiana oil platform leak, so I may as well wade in. Our President hasn’t a clue on how to handle this problem. Instead of calling for hardware and expertise, he’s calling out goon squads from government agencies that don’t have goon squads. He’s calling up droves of government attorneys to gum up the works. He’s got department heads and special assistants flying about willy nilly and no, not one of them knows a damned thing about an oil well, most particularly a deep water well. This administration’s idea of a response team is like a scene out of Alice in Wonderland.
While Rome was burning, Caesar was out criticizing a sovereign State’s Governor for signing a bill protecting the very people Obama and the Federal Government failed to protect for the last twenty or so years. Obama displayed his true colors on this one. The lame stream press has been in full cover mode… the part that wasn’t combing the beaches looking for oiled birds that is.
Obama’s decision to cease operation on every US owned or leased well in the gulf was a juvenile knee jerk reaction at best. Something else to beat the American people with – rising gas prices due to Obama’s shutdown of the 3,800 oil and gas platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. I was listening to Mark Levin this afternoon and I heard him call Obama incompetent. Yes, Mark, he is… or gives every indication of being so. read more »
More Tales From The Darkside… SWAT Teams To Oil Rigs.
For the elected President of a free and sovereign people, Barack Obama behaves more and more like a third world banana republic tin-horn dictator. Totalitarian minded regimes all have certain things in common, and Obama is working overtime to acquire as many of these attributes as possible before we stop him in November. With the anticipated Republican victories we should be able to stop all or most of his agenda. We’d better!
I noticed that Barack has changed his tune about immigration, at least about bringing up immigration as an issue for the November 2010 elections. Perhaps one of his handlers clued him to what a disaster immigration would be if it was allowed to become a major issue, in view of an already outraged electorate in an absolutely poisonous political climate.
In the meantime, we have these various illegal alien ‘industry’ types organizing ‘marches’ throughout the nation. Blatant criminal aliens marching openly and apparently without fear. I can’t help contrast the video footage of the rioters in Arizona with the video recordings, literally hundreds of them, documenting Patriot activities. Well behaved law abiding citizens exercising their Constitutional rights vs. criminal aliens running loose in our streets. That’s the difference. Law and Constitution or criminal illegal aliens sapping the life and vitality out of our economy, with their overwhelming dependence on welfare/social services and the criminal justice system. read more »
Tales From The Darkside… A Question of Right.
Once again we get to examine at close range the techniques the left use when they pull out all of the stops on one of their signature issues. We’d have had to fight this fight anyhow, but Arizona brought the stinking boil to the surface. Look at the videos coming out of Arizona and it’s pretty easy to tell that the people doing the rioting are the sames ones you’d be likely to see in front of Home Depot… and yeah, that’s profiling.
Calling these mini-riots ‘protest marches’ is almost laughable and the LSM is having a lot of trouble selling this one to an America who has had it right up to our eyebrows with the illegal alien issue, along with crooked, corrupt politicians and bureaucracies and Barack Obama’s anti-economy.
The activists, race lawyers and all of the other bottom feeders that follow this wedge of the leftist movement all descended on Arizona at first word of the Illegal Alien Bill being signed into law. Let us not overlook that race baiter extraordinaire, the blowhard himself Al Sharpton, who never overlooks an opportunity to stir racial tension. He blew into town on an ill wind like a vulture sensing corruption. He’s just never figured out how to tell the truth about anything and we’re still trying to figure out what an African American race baiter has to offer to the latino community. The answer is not much! read more »
Obama: The Racebaiter In Charge.
I never in my wildest imagination would have envisioned Obama’s nation. It probably should be better known as the Obamination. In retrospect it’s hard to believe that the American electorate voted Barack Hussein Obama into office… any office. This is a very shallow man. The people he has surrounding him are, for the most part, shallow sorts also. Few have ever had employment outside of feeding at the public trough. The rest of them come from academia which these days equates to naive Marxist/Leninist Keynesian theorists… which is to say they know nothing.
This country, according to Obama, is a racially charged battleground with hordes of angry white cops chasing hapless, poor Mexican ‘braceros’ around the ‘burbs. At least that’s what the liar-in-chief would have you think about a State, Arizona, driven to protect itself and its citizens from the invasion of illegals/criminals flooding across our unprotected borders, most particularly our southern border.
That most of the people coming across happen to be latino has no bearing on the meaning of the word illegal. Again I’ll ask it, what’s not to understand about ‘illegal’? It doesn’t matter if it’s Chinese smuggling themselves in here in containers or people overstaying their visas. There is no difference at all, and country of origin has nothing to do with it. read more »
Obama Opposes Americans, Not Tea Parties.
The Obama administration’s assault on America is in full swing and the newest front is Arizona. Obama was quick to launch all the king’s horses and all the king’s men to lie, play the race card and organize illegals into civil disobedience. If anybody had any remaining doubts about Barry Hussein’s intentions regarding Arizona and his proposed illegal alien amnesty, that should have answered it for you.
No President, not even the unlamented Jimmy Carter, has garnered the ire of this country’s citizenry more than Barack Hussein Obama has in only two short years. Why would any President set himself directly in opposition to the expressed will of the electorate? He repeatedly tells all and sundry how lucky we are that he was here to save our economy with his rapier wit and teleprompter technique, and how we should be thankful for his mismanagement of our economy and his bi-polar foreign policy.
President Obama sees only what his ideology permits and it’s a pretty narrow bandwidth. He’s not now, nor has he ever been, in sync with this country and most especially its people. It’s almost as though as a kid he was raised in the dark side. Kicked from pillar to post and given instruction in leftist dogma, first from a mother who was in and out of his life and later, when living with his grandmother, a committed communist and influential member of the ACP (American Communist Party) through his formative teenage years. If it walks like a duck…. read more »
Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor… But Don’t Get Crazy
The best conservative argument for the United States is the teeming, swarming multitudes of foreigners from every continent except Antarctica falling all over themselves to get here, make something of themselves, and call the U.S. their home. Why are we turning them away?
Last week Arizona governor Jan Brewer signed unconstitutional legislation requiring state police to shake down brown people in the hopes of catching illegal immigrants, and threatening lawsuits against police departments that aren’t sufficiently paranoid in their enforcement of said law.
The Senate will be introducing immigration reform legislation soon, if they can decide whether or not it’s more important to destroy industrial production via cap-and-tax legislation first.
It’s time to calm the hysteria, put aside the pitchforks, and break down the argument for immigration into its fundamental components:
• Immigration is an action that, like owning firearms or taking illegal drugs, does not inherently harm anyone else.
• Immigration can incur penalties for crimes associated with it, rather than the action itself; for example, some immigrants may become involved with gangs, just as some gun owners may accidentally shoot family members or some drug users may commit violent crimes due to lack of self-control. read more »
Leftist Reality: A Dream In A Vacuum.
Back in the day I used to people watch and imagine I could pick out the radical left in a crowd. It had as much to do with my imagination as fact. Pinch-faced, grim-lipped people, who look like they are in perpetual pain and think that everyone else needs to pay for that pain. No matter what it is, or how much, it’s never enough.
I’ve had many liberal acquaintances over the years and by and large they are nice people to be with until, as inevitably happens, the conversation turns to politics or social issues. The ‘progressive’ will automatically drop back to certain fixed points from which their faith cannot be shaken. I can name a few but you will undoubtedly come up with your own. George Bush, big oil, Halliburton, Rove, the war. It’s a target rich environment.
The leftist has an inexhaustible supply of grievances, most of which have been passed down as doctrine from the statist leadership. It’s amazing to watch their collective mentality work. What never fails to astound me is how totally wrong they are. Not just about small parts of what they think and believe, but totally conceptually wrong about everything they do.
The statist sees everything through the fog of mystic idealism… it’s a surreal world where intentions rule and any means to an end is the norm. The statist seeks government approval as dog to its master. read more »
What’s Not To Understand About ‘Illegal Alien’?
The entire mechanism of the left has just lit up like an Independence Day light show. Arizona has just re-erected the states’ rights issue… quite appropriate actually, given that the country is undergoing what may be described as a low-level, bloodless civil war.
The left is foaming at the mouth over Arizona’s heroic decision to stand and be counted. Every single illegal alien supporter, from Barack Hussein Obama right down to the lowest street apparatchik in MEChA, is buzzing like a stick-stirred nest of hornets.
Obama babbled some inanity about the action being inappropriate. You bet Barry, right on, you betcha’.
Inappropriate, or rather inopportune, timing for Barry who had to have his bank bill scam leader John ‘Swiftboat’ Kerry pull the legislation down delaying a vote. Meanwhile, the entire DeMarxist establishment is faced with moving the timing of their next amnesty attempt up, now that they are faced with an actual state in rebellion against a federal government which has steadfastly refused to perform one of its primary duties… that of securing our borders from intrusion by illegals. We (Conservatives) knew we had a fight coming on the illegal issue again, so here it is. The illegal alien amnesty must not succeed. We have to stop it here and now. read more »

Arizona’s Gutsy Decision… The First But Not the Last.
I have the distinct impression that Arizona just may be the rock which starts the avalanche. I sincerely hope it does… while we’re battling the forces of socialism that are trying to steal our country.
Confronting this evil, wherever it infests our society and our body politic, is now the prime focus of the many millions of patriots who are now actively involved in local issues and in upcoming national races. Instinctively and speedily, Patriots have understood that organizing at the grass roots has been a house to house, friend to friend and neighbor to neighbor strategy, resulting in a bottom up ‘organization’ which lends its strength and energy upwards to Conservative Patriot candidates and incumbent politicians we support.
Along with our support they also get our input… we demand it. Too long have we listened to incumbents’ electioneering spiels, telling us what upstanding moderate Republicans they were only to have them instantly revert to type and go off loose-cannoneering without regard for the wishes of the people who were keeping them in office.
House Of Cards On Shifting Sand.
Who would have thought two years ago that we would be looking back on Bush’s, and even Clinton’s, administrations with nostalgia when confronted by the immense wasteland of Barack Obama’s tortured socialist economic policies.
The President doesn’t give a flying damn about the people of this country, or the country itself for that matter. Barack Hussein Obama doesn’t much like this country any how… and it shows. It shows in his contempt for American traditions and the contempt he holds for our values. His willingness to prostrate himself shamefully before this country’s enemies hasn’t gone unmarked by the citizenry and most of us really resent his groveling denigration of our country. Around the Obama White House these days, enemies are treated far better than friends.
It’s clear to me that Barack Obama is an anti-semite. It’s all that can explain the egregious treatment of an ally and a country that an overwhelming majority of Americans support… Israel. Thank God for that tiny country with the heart of a giant. Obama has first of all, as he does with everything, lied to Israel. Lied, cajoled, bullied, threatened, and aligned himself with some of Israel’s, and our, enemies in the process. Israel has stood firm in the face of all the diplomatic firestorm spouting Lord Obama’s wishes. read more »
Value Added… The Final Blow.
President Barack Hussein Obama has stopped flirting with the possibility of a value added tax. He has all but announced his intention to pursue the issue. He’s sure to find a firestorm of resistance waiting for him.
Seems like the Congressional Republicans are getting much better at this guerrilla legislation thing. Good thing for them too. The loom of November throws shadows for some Republicans too. There’s still resentment out here regarding the establishment Republicans and what the grass roots saw as a betrayal of the trust we placed in them. That same ‘grassroots’, whether you call it the Tea Parties or the Patriot Movement, is a walk down main street America. It’s all walks of life, it’s Mr. and Mrs. Everyone.
That’s what it’s come down to… it’s us or them. Most complex problems have simple solutions, this one is as simple as it can get. We simply have to take the House and Senate back in November. Failure is not an option.
