Is this not what we have been complaining about when it comes to Iran for many years now? 9 out of 10 times they back down to pressure and do not put people to death that we are all talking about around the world, but what about the countless others we never hear about or even care to think about during the day. This regime is monstrous in the way they deal with individuals who break Islamic Law, and all we get out of the White House is a prepared statement saying that the United States is not happy with the way Iran is living up to its international obligations. Wow, White House, way to put the fear of God into them, really!
This only goes to show what kind of government we are dealing with when it comes to Iran. These guys are a loose cannon, and if someone does not take care of them soon we will see not only preachers being murdered for their beliefs but the nation of Iran as a whole thinking they are tougher than they actually are. Remember what happened when we were all in elementary school? There was always that one bully who would pick on anyone, no matter what the size or if it meant they would get into trouble or not. They kept picking on the little guys, for the most part, until one day the biggest kid in the room and the most quiet, stood up and punched him in the nose. (well, ok, maybe it did not happen at ALL of your schools, but it did at mine so just follow the logic for a second while I make the point.) Iran is the bully that the big boys do not want to deal with, and while we and other nations keep leading along talks that will never work, the Iranian government is picking on all the little people they know they can pick on and get away with it. At some point the biggest boy in the class is going to stand up, at least I hope so!
When are we going to learn that talking to these types of people never work? I am not saying we have to invade Iran and take over and spend 20 years or more building a new nation. There are ways to do this that can be done under the cover of darkness and without the international community being drawn into an all-out war, another all-out war, in the Middle East. But we have to ask ourselves if we are going to be in this for the long haul, or are we going to allow the people of the Middle East to live as they live, be killed as they are killed, and live a life of fear when they start to question not only their government but their religion as well? Is it fair for those people who WOULD rise up and have tried to in the past, but because the United States stayed out of it the people are still being murdered by the regime for their beliefs.
On the other hand, we go into Libya and lead a mission via NATO to take out the Libyan leadership and install a new government we may not even be able to trust when it is all said and done. How does this make any sense? I know there are many people who will read this and say that we need to mind our own business and just come home, leave the Middle East to themselves, and worry about our own problems. I would ask them if they fully understand the threat that nations like Iran are to not only that region but the world as a whole? Israel is not the only enemy in the eyes of the Iranian government, and the people of Iran cannot be too happy with us either since they see us helping out every other nation around the world except for them. There are those who would leave Israel to be and allow them to be bushwhacked into the ground by an attack from Iran or another nation that is friendly with the Iranian regime. This is an ally we are talking about, and some on my side would allow them to be taken over as we sit by and do nothing. Some ally we would be if some on the right (and when I say right, I really mean the “libertarian” persuasion) had their way.
But more important than our standing against the Iranian regime with firepower or not is the Iranian regime being allowed to put someone to death because of their religion. These are members of the United Nations, and the United Nations has not said a word nor even threatened the Iranian government with any kind of sanctions if this pastor is put to death. They will write a mean letter telling the Iranians they are not happy with them and then let it be, but when Israel defends itself against an attack the United Nations makes sure it is open late to make Israel look like the bad guy in the region. Do all of you understand how dumb that sounds? Do all of you understand we FUND this body that we allow to stay within our nation? How can we fund a body that makes a mockery out of freedom and liberty? How can we be in talks with a regime that would kill us all if we lived in that nation just because we may believe in a religion that is not state sponsored?
Imagine what this pastor is going through right now, waiting to see if the Iranian government will spare him or put him to death like they do those who are homosexuals, Anti-Sharia, and Anti-Iranian regime. Imagine that you have to sit there waiting to be put to death not because you killed someone or because you broke the law, but because you believe in something that the people are forbid to even discuss in public. Imagine that you know you will be put to death because your belief in an ideal and a purpose, and those around the world in governments that could put a stop to this, or at least try to, will do nothing in the way of helping. Imagine all of that and tell me that we are freedom lovers in this nation! Imagine all of that and tell me we love the fact that we can sit here and say what we want, but when it comes to helping someone by our words and our actions, our government stands by while an innocent man is killed because of his religious beliefs. We can sit here and get mad and pretend it never happened two or three days from now, but the fact remains that if we are going to call ourselves freedom-loving people, we need to stand up for the principle no matter where it is. I am not saying let us invade Iran because they are putting a preacher to death, but I say we could do a lot more.
What could we do you might ask? How about giving the United Nations an ultimatum: Tell them that there will be stiff prices to pay for Iran and their actions, and if the body does not agree they can take their allegiance elsewhere in the world, because we want no part of it. While that is just wishful thinking at best, it would show them that we are the ones that run the show, and if they think they can fund it on their own they can try to in another nation. The people are starting to get sicker and sicker of the United Nations day by day, and at some point we will have the discussion in the open about if it is a good or a bad idea to be involved in such a body. The day is not here yet, but it will be soon.
We need to stand next to Pastor Nadarkhani and let him know that while the United States government is made up of politically correct whining babies that are afraid to tick anyone off, the people are here to stand by him and make noise on his behalf. If we allow Iran to run their show such as this while we allow them into a world body like the United Nations, we are telling the people of Iran that they will be left to deal with their torturous regime on their own while the world worries about scolding Israel and giving the Palestinians their own state. Our priorities are messed up, and while we figure out how to fix them we will watch innocent people die at the hands of a murderous regime that sees Christians as the enemy and anyone who disagrees with them the enemy as well.
