Iowa Judges throw traditional marriage under the bus
...rule "gay marriage" is a right
Judges are going to be the cultural death of this country. Or at least they'll be its handmaiden.
Just this morning, the Iowa Supreme Court ruled unanimously that the state's law banning gay marriage is unconstitutional.
They have just thrown the will of the people of the state of Iowa under the bus, placing themselves above the people.
Iowa became the first state in the Midwest to approve same-sex marriage on Friday, after the Iowa Supreme Court unanimously decided that a 1998 law limiting marriage to a man and a woman was unconstitutional.
The decision was the culmination of a four-year legal battle that began in the lower courts. The Supreme Court said same-sex marriages could begin in Iowa in as soon as 21 days. ...
“The Iowa statute limiting civil marriage to a union between a man and a woman violates the equal protection clause of the Iowa Constitution,” the justices said in a summary of their decision. ...
And since Iowa has no residency requirement for marriage licenses, this opens the door for the gay marriage crowd to use Iowa as a springboard to challenge marriage laws (and amendments) in other states - ultimately in federal court.
Now you know why so many states, (over 30 and counting), have passed actual state constitutional amendments.
And why we need a federal marriage amendment as well.
And that's why our members of Congress need to hear from us.
