A Coincidence....Tax Freedom Day....Patriot's Day

April 12, 2011, Tax Freedom Day. This is supposed to be the first day in our calendar year that our nation as a whole has earned enough money to fund its annual tax burden. But, there is always a but, it is only based on this calendar years taxes, and does not calculate into its consideration our national federal budget deficit. So, from my view from the Ridge, this acclaimed day, really means, that Americans have done their part to achieve their responsibilities, but those in Washington, DC have not.

If there is anyone out there that can give me the date of when a “true” Tax Freedom Day will be achieved this year, taking the federal deficit into consideration, it will be appreciated. It makes me wonder and intrigued, who works harder to get the job done, the American people, or those that we thought we had wisely cast our votes for in Congress and the White House.

Patriot's Day will be celebrated this year on April 18, 2011. Many probably don't know or celebrate this day, because it is a civic holiday, celebrated in Maine and Massachusetts, to remind us of the first battles of the American Revolutionary War on April 19, 1775. It is now celebrated on the third Monday in April since 1969.

State Houses are closed, but Federal building remain open. The Boston Marathon is run, it is customary (if Mother Nature is in the mood) for Opening Day for our revered Red Sox. There are re-enactments, to take pride, and make sure we never forget the sacrifices made on our behalf , to value our Freedom and Liberties, that these brave individuals bestowed upon us.

Maybe I am feeling a little nostalgic, but ask that on this coming Monday, that each and every Patriot, take a moment, to thank those that came before us, and realize that they have provided us with the tools necessary to once again lead America in the right direction.

I am reminded of a speech that Ronald Reagan gave at the 4th CPAC Convention, February 6, 1977, “The New Republican Party”.

“The New Republican Party I envision is one that will energetically seek out the best candidates for every elective office, candidates who not only agree with, but understand, and are willing to fight for a sound, honest economy, for the interests of American families and neighborhoods and communities and a strong national defense. And these candidates must be able to communicate those principles to the American people in language they understand. Inflation is not a textbook problem. Unemployment is not a textbook problem. They should be discussed in human terms.”

“I need not remind you that you can have the soundest principles in the world, but if you don't have candidates who can communicate those principles, candidates who are articulate as well as principled, you are going to lose election after election”. “We have to find tough, bright young men and women who are sick and tired of cliches and the pomposity and mind numbing economic idiocy of the liberals in Washington”.

I encourage you all to read the entire speech, I believe this was the speech that kicked off our 25 years of prosperity in America, and the founding principles of Reaganomics....
