Democrats brewing up a union pension fund bailout
It's union payback time - again
As hard (or not) as it may be to believe, the Democrats in Congress are working on yet another bailout. Given how the American people seem to be growing more and more upset with the level of federal spending, you might find that a little surprise, especially since we're getting closer and closer to a mid-term election where recent polls continue to show the Dems in big trouble.
But you probably wouldn't be surprised when you consider just "who" the bailout is for. That's because this big early Christmas present is for the labor unions. You know, those guys who spent over 100 million (that they admit to) helping Obama get in the White House...and the same guys that the Democrats desperately need to be in high gear for them come November.
In other words, it's payback time (again) for the unions.
(Via FOX News)
A Democratic senator is introducing legislation for a bailout of troubled union pension funds. If passed, the bill could put another $165 billion in liabilities on the shoulders of American taxpayers.
The bill, which would put the Pension Benefit Guarantee Corporation behind struggling pensions for union workers, is being introduced by Senator Bob Casey, (D-Pa.), who says it will save jobs and help people.
As FOX Business Network’s Gerri Willis reported Monday, these pensions are in bad shape; as of 2006, well before the market dropped and recession began, only 6% of these funds were doing well.
Honoring those who served and sacrificed
Happy Memorial Day!
Be sure and take some time to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy and so often take for granted.
And take advantage of any opportunity to thank those who served.

California college establishes scholarship for illegal aliens (yes, really)
the world really is turning upside down
Given how insane most of the policies in our country seem to be when it comes to illegal aliens, this really doesn't come as much of a surprise. In fact, you could even say it's the logical next step along the road to the open borders reality so many on the left in our country have been working for, (and that some in the GOP give a wink and nod).
But believe it or not, a PUBLIC college in California has just created a scholarship to be awarded ONLY to illegal aliens. Yes, really.
Santa Ana College will dedicate a scholarship for illegal immigrant students in memory of 27-year-old immigration activist Tam Ngoc Tran of Garden Grove, who was killed in a crash involving a suspected drunken driver in Maine on May 15. ...
Tran and 26-year-old Cinthya Felix Perez of Los Angeles were both killed in the crash. The friends were active members of the DREAM Act immigration reform movement, which aims to allow students who are in the country illegally the chance to apply for legal permanent residency, protect them from deportation and make them eligible for student loans and federal work-study programs.
Is Massachusetts racist?
according to liberal logic
For weeks liberals (and the open borders crowd) have suggested that the majority of the Arizona legislature (and the overwhelming majority of the people of Arizona who support them) are racist because they passed a law allowing local police to ID illegal aliens (as a secondary violation mind you). They've been led by the usual suspects, from the Al Sharptons and Jesse Jacksons of the world, to congressional Democrats and Barack Obama himself.
But that was those rubes out in Arizona. Part of fly-over country so disdained by liberals and the media.
Now the "racism" has spread to (gasp!) Massachusetts!
With one lawmaker citing President Lincoln's respect for the rule of law, the Massachusetts Senate passed a far-reaching crackdown this afternoon on illegal immigrants and those who would hire them, going further, senators said, than any immigration bill proposed over the past five years. ...
The measure, which passed on a 28-10 vote as an amendment to the budget, would bar the state from doing business with any company found to break federal laws barring illegal immigrant hiring. It would also toughen penalties for creating or using fake identification documents, and explicitly deny in-state college tuition for illegal immigrants.
The amendment would also require the state’s public health insurance program to verify residency through the Department of Homeland Security, and would require the state to give legal residents priority for subsidized housing. ...
Sestak vs. Team Obama (the video)
he said, they said
Here's a nice video which gives you a nice "compare and contrast" of the he said/they said between newly minted PA Democrat Senate nominee Joe Sestak and Team Obama.
Sestak of course has said many times that they offered him a federal government job (Secretary of the Navy) in exchange for not running against party jumper (and former King of RINOs) Arlen Specter. And, of course, the White House has denied it...but not very convincingly.
Check out the video below (or click here).
With as many times as Sestak has gone on the record claiming that they DID offer him a job, I don't see how this thing ends well for anyone. Either Sestak and Team Obama get their story straight and Sestak suddenly claims he "misspoke" or just wasn't clear in how he characterized the conversations, or someone on Team Obama gets thrown under the bus.
In the first option, Sestak comes off looking like a complete idiot, not to mention will then have a serious cloud over just how trustworthy he is. In the second option, there's really no telling how high things could go. If someone gets sacrificed, one would assume that THEY would have been offered something to take one for the team, so to speak, (another bribe in a chain of bribes?).
In other words, this is going to be REALLY messy before it's over, which, I suspect, is why after all this time the White House still hasn't put this to bed. It's because they can't. And they're counting their lucky stars that the Republicans in Congress don't have a majority in either chamber, and thus subpoena power. read more »
A message from Jim DeMint: Conservatives Strike Back
Que the Star Wars theme...
Dear Friends:
Last night, freedom-loving Americans scored another important victory in our ongoing campaign to take back our country. Conservative Dr. Rand Paul won the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in Kentucky by more than 20 points.
The Washington establishment threw everything they had at Rand yet he prevailed. The Beltway crowd recruited, endorsed, and funded Rand's opponent, but it didn't work. Rand's message of less spending and less debt overcame all of the attacks and smears against him.
In Rand's victory speech last night he said, "I have a message from the tea party: We've come to take our government back."
This victory is further evidence that an American awakening is taking place across the country as people embrace the principles of freedom that are the backbone of our country.
It shows that Americans want strong leaders who will stop the massive spending, bailouts, and debt that are bankrupting our country. And it shows that Americans want their representatives in Washington to focus on true national priorities, not wasteful earmarks.
I want thank each of you who have supported Rand Paul's campaign. If he's elected in November, he will add his voice to the growing number of new Republicans who will fight for our future.
But this race is not over and the Democrats are going to do everything they can to defeat our candidate. Let's redouble our efforts and make sure Rand wins. read more »
Illegal aliens sue Arizona rancher (world turned upside-down)
amazing...truly amazing
If you needed any further evidence that the world is upside-down when it comes to US immigration law, take a look at this:
An Arizona man who has waged a 10-year campaign to stop a flood of illegal immigrants from crossing his property is being sued by 16 Mexican nationals who accuse him of conspiring to violate their civil rights when he stopped them at gunpoint on his ranch on the U.S.-Mexico border.
Roger Barnett, 64, began rounding up illegal immigrants in 1998 and turning them over to the U.S. Border Patrol, he said, after they destroyed his property, killed his calves and broke into his home. ...
Trial continues Monday in the federal lawsuit, which seeks $32 million in actual and punitive damages for civil rights violations, the infliction of emotional distress and other crimes. Also named are Mr. Barnett's wife, Barbara, his brother, Donald, and Larry Dever, sheriff in Cochise County, Ariz., where the Barnetts live. The civil trial is expected to continue until Friday. ...
The article goes on to point out that Barnett has rounded up over 12,000 (yes, you read that right) illegal aliens on his property since 1998.
Helping us get to this point of insanity is, you guessed it, a federal judge. In this case, Judge John Roll, who rejected a motion by Barnett's attorney's to throw the case out because, you know, the plantiffs are ILLEGALS, lacking the rights of US citizens. read more »
Napolitano admits she hasn't read the Arizona immigration law either
you don't say...
Well, well. Guess who else who's been criticizing Arizona's new immigration law hasn't read it? Try that state's ex-governor, our Homeland Security Director Janel Napolitano.
Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano admits she hasn't read the Arizona immigration law, but passed judgment on it anyway. "That's not the kind of law I would have signed," she declared.
"I believe it's a bad law enforcement law. I believe it mandates and requires local enforcement and puts them in a position many do not want to be placed in," Napolitano said.
"When I was dealing with laws of that ilk, most of the law enforcement agencies in Arizona at that time were opposed to such legislation," she claimed.

Krugman says don't worry, we're not Greece!
Liberals in denial
There was a truly incredible column today from the NY Times resident liberal economist Paul Krugman explaining how people in the US need not worry about becoming like Greece. “We’re not Greece”, he says, which turns out to be the most accurate statement in his entire column.
He then goes on to blame our current financial problems on everything except the bloated spending that put us in the situation we’re currently in.
Of course he gives no thoughtful discussion at all of whether we may actually be spending too much money…rather focusing on our not paying enough taxes. And then blames that on conservatives.
...bear in mind, also, that taxes have lagged behind spending partly thanks to a deliberate political strategy, that of “starve the beast”: conservatives have deliberately deprived the government of revenue in an attempt to force the spending cuts they now insist are necessary. ...
So, it’s all conservatives’ fault, huh? Or rather the fault of American voters who feel they already pay too much in taxes?
He also goes on to suggest that other primary reason for impending doom is because health care costs too much.
...health care costs will rise in the future as they have in the past. This tells us that the key to our fiscal future is improving the efficiency of our health care system — which is, you may recall, something the Obama administration has been trying to do...
Elana Kagan's college undergrad thesis: socialism in New York
suprise, surprise
In what should come as a shock to absolutely nodody, Elena Kagan's newly surfaced college thesis centered on socialism...and not in a critical way.
In it, she thanks her brother, "whose involvement in radical causes led me to explore the history of American radicalism in the hope of clarifying my own political ideas."
An in part of her conclusion, she states:
The story is a sad but also a chastening one for those who, more than half a century after socialism's decline, still wish to change America. Radicals have often succumbed to the devastating bane of sectarianism; it is easier, after all, to fight one's fellows than it is'to battle an entrenched and powerful' foe. Yet if 'the history of Local New York shows anything, it is that American radicals cannot afford to become their own worst enemies. In unity lies their only hope.
Workers of the world unite!
In other words, she basically laments the fact that too many liberal/socialist bretheren here in American can't stop fighting among themselves long enough to impose socialist purity on their country.
Of course, you have to appreciate the ironic situation this presents to liberal (such as those at the Washington Post) who attempted to crucify Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell over his college senior thesis in his campaign late last year.
For their part, liberals are sure to ignore it, just as they ignore anything else that points to their hypocrisy. read more »
