Mayor Bloomberg Predicts Riots in the Streets if More Jobs are not Created

I do not think Bloomberg is that far off in his assessment of the American people if they do not get some jobs and get them very soon. The plans for “creating” jobs have not done enough to make sure those coming out of college have employment, and those young adults who are not looking for work cannot find it. We have seen in other nations how the youth can rise up and take the fight to the government in the way of protesting in the streets on a massive scale, I am just not sure how much longer it will be until those younger people finally rise up, take their voice to Washington, and refuse to leave until something is done. Some of you may think this is not the best idea and in some ways I agree, but there is more to worry about in this nation than some college students who want to voice their opinion and voice it loudly. If they can keep it civil and refuse to leave and do not bring the violence as other nations have seen with their youth, then maybe this is the best thing that can happen to America.

What we have to understand about the youth in this nation (those who are recently out of college and cannot find work in their field) is that they are ticking time bombs waiting to go off. They were groomed from an early age to expect to graduate high school, go to college, graduate, and then go off to work for the next 35-40 years of their lives and start a family. This is the American way and the American way has been disrupted by politicians who do not have the best interest of the people at heart. More importantly, however, is what happens when the status quo changes. When you change the course of events that people are used to, they get angry. For example, if the media ran a news report saying that Congress just passed a bill into law that would cut food stamp rolls by 50%, you would immediately see people in the streets with signs, and some that would be looking to cause trouble. This is the way the world works. Take away what people expect to have, and sooner or later you will be left with chaos. All we have to do is look to European nations and we have a prime example of what happens when the government is forced to take programs away from the people. What happens is that cities burn and the younger people are out in the forefront of those acts.

The question is what can be done about it so the young people understand that we are going through tough times, but those tough times can be dealt with and the good times can come back again? It is not so simple because of who you are dealing with. I am 27 years old and went to college for four years and am right now working on my Master’s program in my degree field because I thought it would give me a leg up on the competition. I understand how tough it is to find a job in the field that you went to school in, because in some areas of the country it is just not possible to find a job in your field. You are then forced to look elsewhere in the country for work, but because the times are hard and many companies do not want to help the new employee with moving expenses, right out of college it is not so easy to pick up and spend thousands of dollars to move across country. For myself, when I picked up and left the state I lived in all my life, it was very tough the first three or four months being out there with almost no money and living on pizza specials and McDonald’s hamburgers. I did it and many others can as well, but the fact remains that when you apply for these jobs there are many more applying for the same one, and the odds you will get hired are slim to none.

The only thing that is left to do is to go work at a fast food place or a department store to try to make enough to survive, if you can get a job in those fields. There is nothing glamorous about it, but at least it will pay the bills until the economy picks up again and people start to hire. The problem is those who are right out of college do not think this way. I was not one of those who thought this way until I was out of school for a while and decided I had to do what I had to do to survive and make money for the things that I wanted. I have a fear that many of the younger people today will believe it is the government’s job to take care of them, but at the end of the day we all know they cannot do that. We have seen what the government does when it comes to try and “create” jobs, and all they do is make the situation far worse than it has to be. There are things the government can do, but for the most part doing nothing is better than spending trillions to hire people for a couple weeks to pave a road. When that money is gone, the people will be looking for more or they will riot when the money runs out and the government says there is no more. Either way, it shows that America is in deep trouble, and those who will be effected the most by the change are those who decided to spend four or five years at an institution and spend tens of thousand’s of dollars for an education that in this economy is not worth the paper the diploma is printed on.

I laid out the plan the President should take in this jobs debate the other day in one of my blogs, and there has been no change in my stance since then. What the American people want more than anything is jobs, the problem is we cannot agree on what to do to get those jobs that people want. Those of us on the Right and many in the middle of the political spectrum want the government to back off, lessen regulations, and allow the free market to bring the economy back. Those on the Left believe the only way to create jobs is for the government to create short term jobs that will, in theory, create more jobs in the future because those projects will be never-ending. This is a flawed theory on the part of the Left because they do not take into account that the money will not be there once it is spent. The only way more money will be there is if more money is passed through Congress, and the wheel keeps on spinning in the same direction and it never ends. We need a change in theory if we are to bring those jobs back and not have those riots in the streets, as Bloomberg is speaking about in the interview that he gave the other day. If we do not come together and figure out the direction that American wants to take, we will be left in limbo while other nations run all over us and we become a nation that makes nothing and depends on everyone else to survive. I do not know about you, but I do not want to depend on the Chinese or anyone else for that matter when it comes to our well being, I want to depend on good old fashioned American work ethic and innovation to rule the day, because it has in the past.
