Another pol eyes Chuck Hagel's Senate seat
Another possible replacement for RINO Republican Chuck Hagel is gearing up:
Nebraska Republican Hal Daub - who spent most of the 1980s in the U.S. House, staged two unsuccessful Senate bids and later was mayor of Omaha - said Tuesday that he is seriously considering a campaign for the Senate seat of Republican Chuck Hagel, who has not decided whether he will seek re-election.Daub's statement, which came almost exactly a year before the state is scheduled to hold its 2008 primary, reflects a restiveness within Nebraska Republican ranks over Hagel's uncertain plans.
Hagel, an independent-minded Republican best known nationally as an outspoken critic of President Bush's handling of the Iraq war, has said he will decide later this year whether he will run for a third Senate term, retire or run for president. On Sunday, Hagel appeared on CBS' "Face the Nation" and seemed to hint that he is seriously considering a White House run - but as an independent, not as a contender for the Republican nomination.
Replacing Chuck Hagel...it can't happen soon enough.
